About Opopop

Opopop is the world's first pre-flavored popcorn kernel brand — the creators of Flavor Wrapped™ Popcorn Kernels, a proprietary technology that wraps each individual kernel in flavor before it pops. Founded in Denver by Jonas Tempel and Bradley Roulier and backed by $11.6M in funding (including RXBAR founder Peter Rahal and DJ Tiësto), Opopop launched in June 2021 with a mission to make popcorn cool again. With bold flavors like Cinnalicious, Maui Heat, and Vanilla Cake Pop, and a growing lineup of Pop Cups and Discovery Kits, Opopop quickly became one of the most talked-about DTC food brands in the country. 

The Challenge

Opopop wasn't just launching a snack — they were launching a category. Their Flavor Wrapped™ technology was unlike anything on the market, which meant their Shopify store had to do two things at once: educate customers on what the product actually was, and convert them fast enough to justify the premium price point. On top of that, the product had unique shipping considerations (a moderate melting point on the kernel coating), a gifting angle that needed seamless UX, and a growing product catalog that needed to expand without sacrificing brand coherence. Brock and Andres needed a Shopify partner who could handle complexity without losing the brand's bold, playful identity.

The Solution

StarkEdge designed and built an Opopop Shopify experience that led with the story. The product pages were engineered to educate first — explaining the Flavor Wrapped™ technology in a visually engaging, skimmable format — before guiding customers toward their first Discovery Kit purchase. The UX hierarchy was rebuilt around the gifting use case, with streamlined bundle flows, custom packaging notes, and multi-address shipping made simple.

App integrations were added to power upselling (e.g., adding the Opopop Popper bowl to the cart), order tracking communications (keeping buyers informed about the temperature-sensitive delivery), and post-purchase flows designed to drive repeat orders. A custom cart drawer tied it all together — reducing the gap between "add to cart" and "order confirmed."

The Results

With the new Shopify store in place, Opopop scaled rapidly — shipping over 180,000 Flavor Wrapped Kernel bags to every city in the U.S. and earning retail placement at Williams Sonoma and Nordstrom. Customer service demand dropped as smarter order tracking communications reduced "Where's my order?" inquiries. And the gifting flow became a genuine growth channel — with Discovery Kits selling out during key gifting seasons. Opopop now has a store worthy of the popcorn revolution they set out to start.
