We had plenty of design references but needed someone to make sense of them. Starkedge asked what we liked about each example, rather than simply combining the styles. The first round helped us narrow the direction, and the later decisions around typography and colour felt much more straightforward.
Our old website looked like several different businesses depending on which page you visited. The new design brought the service pages, case studies, and contact page together visually. I was particularly pleased that the quieter pages received proper attention, because those were the ones our team had struggled with before.
Most of my feedback came from looking at the site on my phone. They were patient about working through the menu, image crops, and longer headings at smaller sizes. I liked being shown the tablet version as well, since a layout that looked fine on desktop needed a different balance there.
I wanted the website to feel confident without filling every section with movement and oversized text. The designer understood that fairly quickly. We spent some time getting the homepage spacing right, but the review process was easy to follow and I never felt pushed into a style that wasn't ours.
We had written most of the content before starting, and some sections were much longer than others. They worked with the material instead of forcing everything into identical blocks. Being able to discuss what visitors needed to notice first made the layout reviews more useful than simply choosing what looked attractive.
